Though women most frequently undergo cosmetic enhancement, men are increasingly seeking out plastic surgery and other cosmetic procedures to rejuvenate and refresh their appearance. More than 1.2 million men in the United States chose to undergo at least one cosmetic procedure in 2013, according to a detailed study by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Here is a look at some of the procedures that are popular among male patients.
Male Plastic Surgery Procedures
- Liposuction: Liposuction is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures. Many men choose this minimally invasive procedure to slim and tone areas of the body that have stubborn fat. Some of the most common areas in which men choose to have liposuction are the lower abdomen and love handles.
- Chest contouring: Men who have enlarged breasts, a condition known as gynecomastia, often opt for chest contouring to create a firm chest. This procedure uses the liposuction technique to remove excess fat and sculpt the chest.
- Rhinoplasty: Rhinoplasty, or nose surgery, is very common and can correct several nasal deformities. Not only can this procedure augment and enhance the appearance of the nose from a cosmetic standpoint, but it can also improve the function. Rhinoplasty can remove naturally formed bumps in the nose, and also correct a nose that has suffered an injury.
- Facelift: As facelift techniques become more advanced and produce more natural-looking results, more and more mean are choosing to undergo facelifts to restore a youthful appearance. It is a highly customizable procedure, made to fit each patient’s individual needs and goals. After a facelift, many patients appear 10 or even 15 years younger. This procedure is most effective at correcting mid-face sagging, jowls, deep creases between the nose and mouth (“laugh lines”), and sagging skin along the jaw and neck.
