Voluma® as a Volumetric Filler for the Cheek: In-office Cheek Lift

Voluma® is a new FDA approved hyaluronic acid gel based filler for use in the cheek, or midface area. Hyaluronic acid fillers are thick gels used to replace volume and smooth creases. Juvederm® and Restylane® are commonly used hyaluronic acid based fillers for facial areas like the nasolabial folds (smile lines) and lips (lip augmentation). The difference between these fillers and Voluma® is the consistency and amount of cross linking. Voluma® is thicker with a more stable cross link which prevents it from being absorbed and leads to its longer lasting effect. Juvederm® will last over one year in the face where Voluma® will last for over two years.

  • Injectable fillers for office based facial and cheek rejuvenation in Austin TX.

Voluma® must be injected in the deeper tissues of the cheek and lower eyelid, and is not for use in the lower face or for superficial facial lines. Voluma® does contain lidocaine in the gel similar to Juvederm® XC which makes for comfortable injections in the office.
Voluma® is used for midface (cheek) aging and volume loss. Common indications of aging in this area are

  • Deep lines under the lower eyelid (tear trough)
  • Puffiness in the lower eyelid
  • Flattening of the upper cheek
  • Hollowing of the lower cheek
  • Sagging of the cheek
  • Deep nasolabial folds

Voluma® can fill out the deeper creases of the lower eyelid and shape the cheek area. It can be performed in the office with topical anesthetic and ice in a 15 minute procedure. Side effects can be bruising and swelling which can be limited with ice. The results can last over 2 years, but they are related to injecting the proper volume and choosing the patient with early facial aging.

Voluma® Austin TX does add a new option for midface rejuvenation in Austin, TX with Dr. Andrew Trussler.
