Outer Thigh Lift

As we get older, our thighs may begin to droop and sag like other areas of the body, such as the breasts and stomach. Stubborn pockets of localized fat may develop as well, which do not go away despite traditional weight loss attempts such as diet and exercise. Fortunately, like these other areas, there are surgical options available for reversing these changes and restoring a tighter, firmer and more youthful appearance to the outer thigh area.
What are my options?
An outer thigh lift can be performed alone, or in combination with other cosmetic procedures, such as part of a body lift or with a gluteal augmentation. When combined with other procedures, patients can achieve maximum aesthetic results and enjoy a younger and more refreshed appearance overall.
Considerations
The outer thigh lift procedure is ideal for candidates who are in good general health and have excess skin and tissue within the area, as a result of the natural aging process, pregnancy or significant weight loss. This procedure should not be considered an easy weight loss solution, and should be performed on patients who are close to their ideal weight, but are unhappy with the appearance of their outer thighs. There are certain risks associated with the outer thigh lift procedure, which patients can reduce by choosing an experienced surgeon to perform their procedure.
Expectations
A successful outer thigh lift can help shape and contour the thighs so that they are proportionate to the legs, stomach and buttocks and create a defined silhouette. Patients with saggy, flabby or dimpled skin in the area can significantly improve the appearance of their thighs in a safe and effective procedure performed by Dr. Trussler.
Surgery
The outer thigh lift procedure is performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia. The entire procedure usually takes two to three hours to perform. Your doctor will make an incision that stretches from the groin to around the hip, which can usually be concealed by underwear or a bathing suit. After the incision is made, excess skin and fat are removed from the thighs. This may be done using liposuction if there is a large amount of fat to be removed. The skin is then stretched to position the buttocks and thighs into their new position, and the area is sutured closed. Compression garments are usually applied to help reduce swelling and expedite the healing process. Some patients may need to stay overnight after this procedure, while others can leave shortly after the effects of anesthesia have worn off.
After Care & Recovery
After the outer thigh lift procedure, patients may experience temporary swelling, soreness and bruising for a few days. These side effects can be controlled with pain medication prescribed by your doctor. Most patients can return to work and regular activities after about two weeks, but should avoid strenuous exercise for at least four weeks. The appearance of the scars from this procedure will continue to change for up to 18 months, but usually fade and can be easily concealed.
The results of this procedure are considered permanent, as long as no significant weight loss occurs. Patients can enjoy a trimmer contour with improved skin tightness and smoothness. The appearance of cellulite can also be improved through this procedure. Even after a thigh lift, patients are not immune to the effects of aging, and the outer thighs will begin to droop and sag again over time. However, they will continue to look better than if a lift had never been performed on them.
